This role is for a Structural Design Engineer based in McKinney, TX, focusing on supporting light-frame construction projects. The position primarily involves working with wood and cold-formed steel structures using various construction products such as connectors, fasteners, anchors, and lateral systems. The role includes occasional travel within the Southeast US territory, and occasionally to international locations like the Caribbean or South America.
Key Requirements
- 5-7 years of experience as a consulting structural engineer, preferably focused on light-frame construction projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent, such as FE or EIT with plans to obtain a PE.
- Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time for branch, company, or customer meetings, with some flexibility based on project needs.
- Proficiency in designing light-frame (wood) structures, including multi-story residential and commercial buildings.
- Strong understanding of industry codes and standards, including IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, NDS, and AWC SDPWS.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams (test lab, production, customer service, sales) and external clients (contractors, engineers, building officials).
- Support the design and implementation of light-frame construction projects in the Southeast US territory.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success and provide training and workshops as needed.
- Assist in the development and execution of on-site training programs, and handle customer and internal team requests.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred, but candidates with an FE or EIT who have passed the PE exam will also be considered.
